Health Tips for the Monsoons

 

All of us are excited to welcome the rains after the scorching summer heat, aren’t we? However, the onset of rains and the monsoons are associated with multiple health issues. It is therefore important for us to take extra care of ourselves during monsoons being prone to more illnesses.

A few simple tips and tricks help improve immunity and maintain good health. Some of them include:

 

 

  • Avoid raw vegetables and consume fruits and vegetables only after washing them thoroughly
  • Use strong and effective mosquito repellents to keep mosquitoes away and try not to get bitten by mosquitoes
  • If possible keep your vaccinations up to date
  • Avoid walking through rainy water lodged on roads, as they lead to fungal infections of the feet
  • Keep an umbrella or a raincoat handy while travelling
  • Dry your feet as they get wet
  • Don’t not spend too long in air conditioned rooms with wet or damp hair
  • Drink plenty of water regardless of your activity levels
  • Avoid getting drenched in rain
  • Bathe twice daily
  • Avoid touching your eyes unnecessarily
  • Carry your own drinking water when you go out or choose packaged drinking water
  • Wash hands frequently with soap and water
  • Exercise needs to be given more importance
  • Fruits should form the mainstay of your snacks – Apples, mangoes, pomegranates, pears are the best. Avoid watermelons and muskmelons
  • Increased consumption of herbal teas will help you to avoid bacterial infections
  • Excessive intake of coffee and tea is to be avoided to prevent dehydration
  • Consume steamed salads and cut down on consumption of raw vegetables
  • Avoid food from street vendors and bulk preparations
  • Avoid binge consumption of fishes and meat
  • Indulge in consumption of non-spicy, non-oily and light foods that are easily digestible
